While ornament usually involves decorative or detailed elements that embellish an object, ugly design seeks to break with conventional standards of beauty and create something that defies traditional aesthetic standards. I am intrigued by the idea of ugly design as a kind of anti-ornament, where the ugly or unusual becomes an integral part of the design.

My goal is to create my own ornamental grammar of symbols based on the dynamic between ornament and anti ornament, preciousness and ugliness, finding authenticity and honest expression, even if it is messy or uncomfortable to look at.
